Saving food.

Feeding families.

Strengthening community.

We recover surplus, prepared food and redirect it as take-home family dinners. Then we work with trusted social service agencies across Kansas City to ensure this great food reaches families who needs it most.

Our mission is simple: Less food waste. More family meals.

Turning Extra Food into Wholesome Family Meals

Our Mission

Every day, restaurants, caterers, and food service partners prepare more food than they can serve. Meanwhile, thousands of Kansas City families struggle to put dinner on the table. Pete’s Garden bridges that gap.

We recover freshly prepared food, repackage it into hearty family-sized meals, and deliver them to Kansas City social service agencies who support families in need.

How It Works

By rescuing high-quality prepared food, we reduce waste and make it easier for parents to provide a wholesome meal for their children.

Instead of ending up in the trash, good food can be shared around the dinner table.

Why It Matters

While large amounts of food go to waste every day, many families in our community struggle to access meals. Thirty percent of wasted food is never even served, and In Kansas City, we estimate that food service businesses throw out enough food each for over 1 million meals. At the same time, one in six local children do not know where their next meal will come from. Pete's Garden makes it easy for good food to get to families who need it.

Stories From the Dinner Table

Every meal we recover and repackage is created with dignity in mind. Families deserve food that feels like home: comforting, nutritious, prepared with care.

I don't know what I would do if I didn't have Pete's Garden to help with my food situation. I don't get a lot of food stamps and I have a hard time finding foods I like, but man, Pete's is a blessing and I thank you kindly.
